Well hello there bloggers, it's your prodigal writer.
Ok, so maybe my return to finally writing again is due to 1) the message at the top of the page stating I had no posts under this blog, 2) my dear friend has started writing in hers again and reminds me how much I miss putting thoughts and ideas into writing for the random web-o-sphere to read and 3) I'm killing time waiting for pictures to upload to a website so I can continue working on a photo album that's well overdue. Forever multi-tasking.
That's right ladies and gents, I'm finally getting around to creating our *drum roll* wedding album. For anyone who is counting, it's been about sixteen months since our nuptials, and other than print off a few here and there for display purposes, I have done squat with anything wedding related. And by anything wedding related I mean I still have boxes and boxes of the decor and whatnot stored in my parents garage (that's a whole other story in itself).
There's actually other reasons as to why I put off creating the album or dealing with anything to do with wedding whatnot. Mostly, it's because I was flat out sick of it all. There, I said it. May the wedding gods strike me where I sit, but seriously, for any ladies (and gentlemen, for that matter) that have planned or organized a wedding primarily on their own, you must understand how little I wanted to do anything with any of those things. We took about two years two plan ours, so when I had the ability to metaphorically sweep it all under a rug when it was said and done it felt nice.
Now, reality sets in that the excess and things I'm never going to use again must be dealt with. Luckily (or dumb luckily is more like it), in some form of future planning, I actually have been able to incorporate quite a few things used in our wedding into our home decor. It's amazing what a little spray paint can do :) I actually find it kind of nice to have little reminders scattered throughout our home of that wonderful day. This however, cannot be said for a number of other things taking up very precious space in our closet.
I'll be first to admit I have a lot of stuff. A LOT of stuff. And as anyone who has ever merged their lives with another being, whether it be marriage or just roommates, you all know there is only so much space in an apartment that can be taken up by things before you look like you belong on an episode of hoarders or you cause a huge rift between the inhabitants. And with lots of stuff can potentially be lots of clutter, which usually turns to some level of tension between those sharing the living space. When we said our vows, part of them entailed the in the sickness and in health. Well, stuff/messiness is my sickness. Thankfully, my better half loves me in spite of it. Actually, it's thanks to him that I've become quite a bit more organized and striving to keep things neat. Darn him for teaching me good habits. That, and teaching me the joy of cereal for dessert.
Although I have quite a few things, I don't have a problem with getting rid of said things. Quite the opposite. One of my favorite things to do is weed through all the boxes and shelves, finding hidden treasures as well as items to be re-purposed, but mostly, finding things that can go away and not be missed. That being said, my goal is to get rid of about 25-30% of the stuff in there. Sadly, that means I will have to down-size the amount of holiday and seasonal decor (that may hurt a bit), but in the long run it's definitely for the better. And finally go through boxes I'm pretty sure have just migrated from my parents house to my apartment, the my next apartment, etc., to the current home.
One of my biggest goals (besides drastically downsizing the amount of material stuff we have) is to overall become more organized and eliminate the unnecessary from life. I refrain from calling it a resolution, because this isn't something I want to be a one time thing. Instead, it needs to turned into a habit that, hopefully, will have a longer life span than the typical resolution.
Here's to a clutter-free (and blogging filled) 2012!
